Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 64 seeks to amend Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A. relating to primaries and elections generally. It adds new subsection (g) which provides that in the event of a nonpartisan election for an office a candidate is disqualified or withdraws after the qualifying period but prior to the nonpartisan election for such office and such event would leave either no candidate or one candidate on the ballot, then no election shall be held and the officer with whom candidates qualify for such office shall reopen qualifications between 3 and 5 days and such office shall be filled by a special election.
